Veneers vs Crowns / Veneers and Crowns
A dental crowning or a dental cap procedure involves reduction of tooth structure of around 1.5 – 2mm all around the teeth involving both enamel and dentin, whereas a Dental Veneer usually involves reduction of the front tooth surface alone to less than 0.5 mm involving only the enamel.
Which is better veneers or crowns?
Veneering is better when there is no need to remove tooth structure as in a crown mainly for aesthetic purposes. But if the need to reinforce a tooth structure, then Crowns are needed to strengthen the teeth.
Are Veneers painful? Will Veneers ruin my teeth?
As there is very minimal tooth reduction, they are not painful. The preparation only involves the enamel whereas the tooth nerves are in the dentin and the pulp.
Will Veneers stain?
Veneers need to be cleaned and maintained in the same way as your teeth. It can stain on the outside due to smoking and other stuff but these can be removed as well and these will cause stains on any other material or tooth.
Will Veneers fall off?
Veneering when properly bonded usually will not fall off. They are not cemented onto the tooth surface but bonded which means that the veneer and the tooth becomes a single monoblock unit.
Why Veneers fall off?
Veneers fall off when the Preparation procedure and the above said bonding procedure is not properly done.
Can Veneers cause Root canal?
The Treatment procedure as such doesn’t cause root canal . The decay in the tooth due to broken fillings if not properly removed can lead to a root canal and this is the same for any treatment procedure.
